There’s coal in dem hills

Day 1

I packed up Nate’s red rav4 or however you call a rav4. I wondered, did I bring too much stuff? Maybe? Being prepared, it’s a motto. Mostly, I was not sure what I wanted to do at some places. Planning on glamping at a few places so it’s important to have what you need.

I made good time to Evan’s and Lauren’s. NC flew by, Virginia was nice. Cutting through the mountains was cool. I’ve been on this part of the interstate before so nothing really new to see. You go though a couple of tunnels and on the end of the second tunnel, it’s West Virginia. It’s wild and wonderful.

So, google says take a right, take exit 1. That’s the first exit as soon as you come out of the tunnel in WV. The road is taking me a different way this time. E&L live in northern Kentucky so you should stay on the interstate all the way up but I have another plan… a slurpee. There is only one 7-Eleven in Kentucky. It’s near the border of WV and VA. Right in the middle of coal country.

I took some of the smallest roads I think are even state maintained. I wanted to yell around some of the snake S turns to see if anyone was coming. No cell service but google loads up the map with is good so I had that going for me, which is nice. You see, it loads up a “9 min faster”. I click. I drive though someone’s “it feels like through someone’s” yard, around and up mountains. I pass trucks full of coal. The railway is better maintained then the road. Here, coal is king.

I make it. There in Belfry, KY, 7-Eleven. Oh thank heaven. I grabbed a slurpee, Coke and cherry. The ultimate mix is Coke, cherry and Mt Dew btw. There is someone having a battery installed in the parking lot. ATV’s are getting filled up. I see everyone in the store has a gun. Did I miss the memo? It’s picture time! Another state off the list!

This slurpee brought to you by Nathan and Melanie. Thanks for the wheels!
