Days 19 and 20
As I left the Oregon coast, I knew I wanted to go to Albuquerque. That was the next goal. I stayed near the Oregon \ California border. From there it was time to stop at Weed, CA. I mean, you have to right? It was a one t-shirt shop town. I mean, you could not have two Weed, Ca shops. I didn’t see another one so, I stopped. Did the normal, “I love Weed, Ca” stuff. Grabbed a couple of souvenirs and post cards.
From there it was to cut across to Reno. I also wanted to see Lake Tahoe. I got off I-5 and followed google. Along the way I could go though Lassen Volcano National Park. Okay, I have the year long pass, why not. It was nice to drive though the park, check out the peak, near 8k and the mud pits. I didn’t see any mud pits “if there was any” at Yellowstone so checking these out aaa pretty cool. It was the worst sulfur smell I ever smelled. Felt like it got in my clothes. Prob did. I mean, take chem class and have everyone in your class with sulfur and have it in steam!!! Ugh. Thou the bubbling mud was cool.
Next it was to Lake Tahoe. Todd and Margo was waiting for me with the boat. We had sunset tapas and sangria. It was quite stunning. They had gotten recently back together after a hard breakup last Christmas. Something about their former neighbor and too many Christmas lights. I didn’t get the whole story. Tahoe was neat but time to move along. Grabbed a slurpee, up over the Sierra Nevadas and to Reno. I snagged a Hotwire deal. $25 for a room at the Sands and then you got $25 in chips. So, a free room. Yes, it’s a old hotel with old people but hey free room. I checked some reviews to make sure I wasn’t going to get stabbed with a iron or anything. It was fine. Chilled in the room and watch tv. Saw some of the lights but it was more just going back in time.
Okay, off to Vegas. 8 hr drive thou the desert. It was exactly that. Need to see the desert changes. The worlds largest ammo depot, Nevada testing range and more sand. Oh, a few cattle and horses. More desert and then the lighting in the distance from a thunderstorm. Tumbleweed blew by, wha wha wha.. music.
Vegas, what I can I say. One, I was not staying here tonight. Yes, crazy deals but unlike Reno, you just have old people gambling and not the tourists and I try to avoid those like well… So, down the strip. There is a lot of construction. You go to Vegas with friends. Solo, felt well solo. My quick 2 hr drive and slurpee grab vibe I felt was, take Times Square, put it in Orlando and surround it with South Florida but take away the water and humidity. 102 degrees at 8p. No, thank you.
Grabbed a room near the dam with an added plus when I walked in my room, a jacuzzi! I had a nice glass of bourbon and watched Beavis and Butthead. That’s living.
