Field Rush 2025

So with the ACC adding a fine for a field rush / storming or in my world fancy terminology, “unauthorized field intrusion” for the 2025 season, I thought it would be nice to start a spreadsheet for when we have a field rush and the accruing fine.

“The plan may allow spectators to access the competition area following a contest, but only after the visiting team and officials have safely exited the area with the elevated safety expectations,” Jim Phillips, commissioner said. “There’s critical importance to ensure that adequate time for all members of the visiting team to safely leave the field of play. In addition to these elevated expectations, there is a corresponding fine structure in place, should a school have a breach in this new policy.”

$50,000 fine for the first time it happens at a school. The second will be $100,000 and the third $200,000. Timeline resetting every two years.

The SEC has had these fines for years. It might deter a school which has a tighter budget but if you find the right donor with deep pockets that lights cigars with $100 bills, they probably will pay the fine for the optics and marketing material for the school.

For both conferences, fines can be waved by the commissioner if the visiting team and officials exited the field of play safely.

If I missed one in the major conferences let me know.

Week 10 spreadsheet update: SMU and NC State join the 2025 field rush club. Expect $50,000 fines issued to both schools from the ACC office this week and now 5 ACC schools have had a field rush this year totaling $250k.

Below is the a shot of the collapsible goal posts that was collapsed by fans before they could be safely lowered.
